JUSTICE SUMMIT hosted by the San Francisco Public Defenders Office

Jeff Adachi, the Public Defender for San Francisco, has organized a Justice Summit on Wednesday, May 6 which Women Defenders is co-sponsoring.  The Honorable Thelton Henderson will be the keynote speaker.  There is no fee to attend and registration is not required.  However, if you register before Friday, May 1, lunch is on the public defender's office.  You can register on-line:www.sfpublicdefender.org/2009-justice-summit.

When:     10:00am-2:30pm (9:30am registration)
Where:    Koret Auditorium at the SF Main Library, 100 Larkin Street

The U.S. Constitution requires that an accused person who lacks the means to hire a lawyer is provided one. Public defenders and court appointed attorneys ensure that our constitutional rights are protected, that all Americans are treated fairly under the law, and that injustice and governmental misconduct are exposed.

Due to the economic downturn, many more people cannot afford a lawyer and must rely on public defenders and court appointed counsel for help. In San Francisco and across the nation, public defense offices are facing budget cuts that will make it impossible to provide adequate representation to their clients. They need your support.

Please show your support for public defense by coming to the 2009 Justice Summit: Defending the Public and the Constitution.

For more information, call 415-575-4390 or email lea.villegas@sfgov.org.
